The Indian Ministry of Defense announced Sunday that two soldiers and six militants were killed in gunbattles in the Indian-administered part of the disputed region of Kashmir with Pakistan. In a statement, the Indian Ministry of Defense stated that two soldiers were killed during a security sweep operation in the disputed region and conducted two separate operations in two villages of Kulgam region, highlighting that the clashes are still ongoing in Modergram and Frisal Chinnigam villages. Noteworthy, the region of Kashmir was divided between India and Pakistan at the end of British colonial rule in 1947. The larger part controlled by New Delhi is called Jammu and Kashmir, while the remaining part controlled by Islamabad is called Azad Kashmir (Free Kashmir). The dispute over the region has been the cause of two wars and numerous skirmishes between the nuclear-armed neighbors. Source: Qatar News Agency
