The Pakistani army announced Friday the killing of 12 militants during clashes with a group of militants in two separate incidents in the northwest of the country. The army said in a statement that its forces monitored the movements of seven militants who were trying to infiltrate from the town of Wam Sabin in the North Waziristan region, so they pursued them and clashed with them, and were eventually able to kill them all. The statement noted that in another incident, a group of militants attacked a checkpoint in the South Waziristan region. It added that the army repelled the attack and was able to eliminate 5 militants, noting that 5 soldiers were also killed during the clashes. The Pakistani forces have been continuing their efforts for years to eliminate armed groups entrenched in the mountains, and from time to time launch attacks against security personnel and civilians.
