Geneva: The World Health Organization on Wednesday adopted a decision on the health conditions in the occupied Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. The decision was made during the seventy-eighth session of the World Health Assembly, held under the theme 'One World for Health' at the Palais des Nations.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the decision, titled the Health Conditions in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, and in the Occupied Syrian Golan, received significant support from WHO Member States. A total of 104 countries voted in favor of the draft decision, which addresses critical issues such as the deliberate targeting of hospitals and medical personnel, the obstruction of ambulance passage, and the denial of patient access to treatment. Meanwhile, 14 Member States chose to abstain, while four others opposed the decision.
The WHO Member States that voted against the decision were Germany, Israel, the Czech Republic, and Hungary. This decision underlines the ongoing concerns about the health situation in these occupied regions and highlights the international community's attention to the humanitarian aspects involved.
