WFTU Condemns Greek Company SINEDOR for Alleged Operations with Israeli Firms

Athens: The World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU), which represents over 110 million workers across 134 countries and five continents, has issued a condemnation of the alleged operations between Greek steel company SINEDOR and Israeli firms. The WFTU claims that products supplied by SINEDOR are being used in the construction of tanks that are part of operations accused of committing genocide against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the WFTU has called for a boycott of Israel, particularly focusing on activities connected to military operations and alleged crimes against Palestinians. The organization categorically denounced any collaboration with what it termed as the war machinery of Israel.

The WFTU statement referenced several international legal actions against Israel. On January 26, 2024, the International Criminal Court mandated Israel to take measures to prevent genocide in Gaza, acknowledging South Africa's claims as plausible. Further, on May 26, 2024, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to cease its military offensive in Rafah immediately, following South Africa's urgent appeal. The ICJ labeled Israel's activities in Rafah as a genocidal threat to Palestinian survival.

Adding to the legal pressures, on May 20, 2024, the chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court sought arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yoav Galant, charging them with war crimes and crimes against humanity.

The WFTU's statement concluded that if the accusations against SINEDOR's dealings with Israel are accurate, an immediate cessation of this partnership is necessary. The federation emphasized there should be no support for Israeli actions and called for an end to what it described as genocide, advocating for Palestinian freedom. 'No support for the Israeli crimes. Stop the Genocide - Free Palestine,' the statement declared.
