WFP Says Needs in Gaza Are ‘Greater Than Ever’ as Hunger Spreads

Gaza: The Director of Operations at the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), Carl Skau, stated that the needs in the Gaza Strip are "greater than ever" and the humanitarian response "more constrained" since the beginning of the genocide on October 7, 2023.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Skau shared his observations in a series of posts on X, noting his recent visit to Gaza, marking his fourth trip since the conflict commenced. Skau described the situation as deteriorating, emphasizing the escalating needs and the limited ability to respond effectively.

Skau highlighted the spread of hunger and the fatalities occurring as people desperately search for food. He detailed the challenges faced by WFP teams in Gaza, who are striving to deliver aid amidst the ongoing conflict, often encountering dangerous conditions while escorting food convoys.

He further elaborated on the logistical hurdles, mentioning the dwindling supply of fuel, spare parts, and basic communications equipment. Skau pointed out that local WFP staff are enduring the same hardships and risks as the residents of Gaza.

Skau also addressed the WFP's preparedness and capability to provide aid, referencing a previous ceasefire period between January 19 and March 1, 2025, during which 8,000 trucks were delivered to Gaza in 42 days. He expressed confidence in replicating this effort if a new agreement is established.

In conclusion, Skau stressed the necessity of security and the reopening of roads and entry points for effective aid delivery, advocating that a ceasefire should be a step toward lasting peace.
