Gaza: The World Food Programme (WFP) strongly condemned the attack on January 5, when a clearly marked WFP convoy was shot at by Israeli forces at a military checkpoint near Wadi Gaza, in the central Strip.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the attack endangered the lives of WFP staff and left the vehicles immobilized, with at least 16 bullets striking the vehicles. Despite having received all necessary clearances from Israeli authorities, the convoy, consisting of three vehicles carrying eight staff members, came under direct fire.
The WFP stated that, fortunately, no staff members were injured in the encounter, but described the event as unacceptable and highlighted it as a recent example of the complex and dangerous environment faced by humanitarian agencies.
The agency emphasized the urgent need to improve security in Gaza to ensure the continuation of life-saving humanitarian aid. It urged all parties to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilian lives, and allow for the safe passage of humanitarian aid.
