Post: Vigil in Ramallah Marks International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners

Ramallah: Dozens of citizens gathered today in the courtyard of the Al-Bireh Cultural Center in Ramallah to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Prisoners. The event was attended by members of the Fatah Central Committee and Revolutionary Council, alongside families of prisoners, as part of the activities organized annually on August 3rd to support prisoners and oppose occupation policies against Palestinians. According to Union of OIC News Agencies, Fatah Central Committee member Tawfiq Tirawi emphasized the enduring loyalty and support of the Palestinian people for their prisoners, who face harsh conditions in occupation prisons. He highlighted that the issue of prisoners has gained global attention, with demonstrations and vigils held worldwide calling for the freedom of Palestine and its prisoners. Amin Shuman, head of the Higher Committee for Following Up on Prisoners and Released Prisoners Affairs, spoke about the sacrifices of the prisoners for the freedom and dignity of t heir people. He detailed the severe conditions and violations faced by prisoners, including executions, deprivation of basic needs, and medical neglect, urging for continued support in their struggle for justice. Abdullah al-Zaghari, representing prisoners institutions, reiterated their commitment to advocating for the rights and freedom of prisoners. He criticized the actions of extremist figures, highlighting the need for international attention and action to address the plight of Palestinian prisoners. The National and International Day of Solidarity with Prisoners, observed on August 3rd, is a result of collaborative efforts by institutions and national action factions to support the prisoners' cause. The event in Ramallah saw participation from various national and organizational figures, prisoners' institutions, and families, reflecting the widespread support for the prisoners' struggle. The current number of prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons exceeds 9,400, including 94 female prisoners and ove r 350 children. Additionally, there are about 3,244 administrative detainees, 3,244 sick prisoners, 42 journalists, and 190 veteran prisoners.
