Gaza: The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, has raised concerns over the ongoing tragedies in Gaza, as global attention shifts elsewhere.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Lazzarini highlighted in a statement on the Agency's official website that recent days have seen dozens killed and injured, including individuals facing starvation as they attempt to access food through a hazardous distribution system. He emphasized that despite the large quantities of aid primed for entry into Gaza, restrictions continue to impede its passage through the United Nations, including UNRWA.
The statement further elaborated on the severe fuel shortages that are now critically affecting the delivery of essential services, notably health and water. Lazzarini warned that the continued violence and loss of life could lead to further conflict and bloodshed, with civilians being the principal victims.
In his statement, Lazzarini called for urgent political will, leadership, and courage to address the crisis effectively and prevent further suffering.
