Internet and Telecommunications Services Gradually Restored in Gaza

Gaza: The internet and telecommunications services have been gradually restored in the central and southern war-battered Gaza Strip, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced on Monday.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the TRA stated in a press release that their technical teams have managed to repair the damages to the telecommunications infrastructure, which were caused by deliberate targeting by Israeli occupation forces. This restoration effort has allowed for a gradual reinstatement of internet and telecommunications services in the affected areas of the Strip.

The TRA strongly condemned the Israeli assaults on the internet and telecommunications infrastructure, labeling them as a clear violation of international and humanitarian laws. The agency highlighted that these attacks pose a direct threat to the continuity of essential services that are critical during the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip.

Furthermore, the TRA urged the international community, including human rights organizations, to take immediate action to stop Israel's attacks and sabotage on the telecommunications network. They emphasized the need to protect technical teams and ensure they have safe access to address malfunctions and blackouts.

Since the escalation of hostilities in October 2023, Israel has conducted intensive bombing campaigns targeting internet and landline services across the Gaza Strip. Additionally, they have restricted the entry of fuel, crucial for operating electrical generators, leading to widespread blackouts.
