Gaza city: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) continues its efforts to provide essential assistance to nearly 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are experiencing the harsh realities of war and famine.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, UNRWA’s recent report highlights its operations in the occupied Palestinian Territory from January to September 2025. The report underscores UNRWA’s status as the primary healthcare provider in the region, managing to operate under challenging conditions. Over 1,000 health staff are working across six clinics and 20 medical points, delivering 2.7 million medical consultations since the beginning of 2025. This includes daily medical consultations for 13,000 individuals, screening for malnutrition among more than 127,000 children, and administering polio vaccines to over 213,000 children.
The report further reveals that in early September 2025, approximately 94,000 displaced individuals were residing in 60 shelters managed by UNRWA. Despite the severe financial crisis impacting its operations, UNRWA remains committed to delivering services to those in need.
UNRWA continues to face significant challenges, notably the ban imposed by the Government of Israel on bringing humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip since March 2025. Prior to this, UNRWA successfully provided food aid to over 2 million people. However, resources remain available, with sufficient food supplies stored in Jordan and Egypt to sustain the population for three months and shelter supplies capable of supporting up to 1.3 million people.
