The United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned Monday that any further escalation of the dangerous situation resulting from the Israeli aggression on southern Lebanon would have far-reaching and devastating consequences, not only for those living on both sides of the Blue Line, but also for the region as a whole. The UN force expressed, in a statement, its grave concern for the safety of civilians in southern Lebanon in light of the Israeli entity launching the most intense shelling since last October. Aroldo Lazaro, Head of the UNIFIL Mission and its Commander-in-Chief, stressed the urgent need to de-escalate and stop the shelling, stressing the need to re-commit fully to implementing UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which has now become more important than ever to ensure lasting stability. The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced that the number of victims of the violent Israeli occupation raids on southern Lebanon since this morning has risen to 182 dead and 727 injured. In recent da ys, the Israeli army has intensified its violent aerial and artillery bombardment of southern Lebanon, expanding the geographical scope of its aggression, which has caused more deaths, injuries and material damage amid great fear of the situation in the region exploding.
