The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) decided to award the Press Freedom Prize, for the first time, to Arab journalists, and to Gaza in particular. The head of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate, Nasser Abu Bakr, received the Press Freedom Award, which UNESCO decided to award this year to Palestinian journalists who covered the Israeli war on Gaza. The award was presented by Tawfiq Jalasi, Assistant Director-General of UNESCO, and members of the UNESCO Prize Committee at a ceremony held by UNESCO on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day in Santiago, the capital of Chile.
