Khartoum: The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has warned that food aid in Sudan could be exhausted within the next two months due to a severe lack of funding.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the WFP affirmed that without immediate additional funding, millions of people could be cut off from life-saving food aid within weeks, noting that food rations have already been reduced to the bare minimum needed for survival.
The WFP warned that its food stocks in Sudan are expected to run out by the end of March, citing a UN-supported Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report that confirmed famine in El Fasher, North Darfur, and Kadugli, South Kordofan.
The report also warned that residents of Dilling are facing famine-like conditions, adding that verifying the data is difficult due to restricted movement and communication disruptions.
The WFP further revealed that the conflict in Sudan has triggered the world's largest hunger crisis and the largest emergency displacement, with more than 21 million people suffering from acute food insecurity and at least 11 million displaced, most of whom are living in overcrowded camps.
