UN Secretary-General Urges Massive Increase in Aid to Gaza

Gaza: UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres said the trickle of aid entering the Gaza Strip must become an ocean.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Guterres issued a statement Tuesday following the release of the latest Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) report, which warned that 'the worst-case scenario of famine is currently playing out in Gaza.' He emphasized that the alert 'confirms what we have feared', indicating that Gaza is on the brink of famine, and stated, 'The facts are in - and they are undeniable.'

Guterres described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian catastrophe of epic proportions, stressing that it is not merely a warning but a reality unfolding before our eyes. He called for immediate action to end the nightmare, stating that 'Ending this worst-case scenario will take the best efforts of all parties - now.'

The UN chief reiterated his longstanding appeal for an immediate and permanent humanitarian ceasefire, the unconditional release of all hostages held in Gaza, and full humanitarian access across the enclave. He urged that this is a test of shared humanity that cannot be failed.
