United nations: The United Nations General Assembly voted in favor of allowing President Mahmoud Abbas to address the upcoming annual meeting of world leaders through a video message. This decision enables President Abbas to participate in the discussions without being physically present.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the resolution was supported by 145 member states, while five countries opposed it and six abstained from the vote. This move comes in the wake of the United States' announcement that it would not issue visas to the Palestinian delegation planning to attend the General Assembly meetings this month.
The decision to permit a video address underscores the ongoing challenges faced by Palestinian representatives in their international diplomatic efforts. The annual meeting of the General Assembly serves as a critical platform for world leaders to discuss pressing global issues, and President Abbas' participation through video ensures that the Palestinian perspective will be included in these discussions.
