UN Chief Condemns Israeli Airstrikes in Gaza That Violate Ceasefire

Gaza: UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the recent Israeli airstrikes across the Gaza Strip that killed more than 100 Palestinians, most of them women and children, in a grave violation of the ceasefire.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric stated at a press briefing that Guterres strongly condemns the killings due to Israeli airstrikes of civilians in Gaza, particularly highlighting the deaths of many children. The Secretary-General also condemned actions that undermine the ceasefire and endanger civilian lives.

Guterres emphasized the necessity of upholding ceasefire commitments, warning against any acts that risk civilian harm or obstruct humanitarian operations. Dujarric acknowledged the diplomatic efforts by Egypt, Qatar, Trkiye, and the United States to maintain the truce, and noted that the UN and its partners are enhancing their presence in Gaza to deliver essential aid.

The condemnation follows a report by the Palestinian Health Ministry, which stated that Israeli strikes since Tuesday evening have resulted in the deaths of at least 110 people, including 46 children and 20 women, and injuries to 253 others. The ministry reported that since the ceasefire on October 10, at least 211 Palestinians have been killed and 597 injured.

Official figures indicate that Israel's assault on Gaza since October 2023 has resulted in over 68,600 deaths, mostly women and children, and injuries to more than 170,600 individuals.
