London: The United Kingdom expressed its deep concern over the Israeli occupation's decision to cut off electricity supplies to the Gaza Strip, urging for the restoration of power to the area.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Prime Minister Keir Starmer's official spokesman addressed reporters, highlighting the UK's stance on the issue. "We're deeply concerned by these reports and urge Israel to lift these restrictions," the spokesman stated, emphasizing the potential humanitarian implications of the decision.
The spokesman further elaborated on the UK's position, noting that the halt on goods and supplies entering Gaza, including essential resources such as electricity, could risk breaching Israel's obligations under international humanitarian law. When questioned about whether this decision constitutes a violation of international law, the spokesman indicated that it is a matter for international courts to decide. Nonetheless, he reiterated that restricting the entry of basic goods and supplies, including electricity, into Gaza may threaten to violate Israel's international humanitarian obligations.
