Jerusalem: Two Palestinians on Friday evening sustained injuries in a colonist attack near al-Khan Al-Ahmar village, east of East Jerusalem, according to the Jerusalem Governorate.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency, Israeli colonists attacked the village, with one colonist driving a motorbike into two villagers, causing bruises. Another colonist used pepper spray on several villagers. The attackers also attempted to steal a flock of sheep but were thwarted by the villagers' resistance. Following the incident, Israeli occupation forces entered the village and detained four youths who tried to defend against the attack.
Violence by colonists against Palestinians and their property occurs frequently in the West Bank and often goes unpunished by Israeli authorities. Such violence includes arson of properties and mosques, stone-throwing, destruction of crops and olive trees, and attacks on homes.
About 1 million Israeli colonists live in colonies in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which is considered illegal under international law.
