The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced today, Thursday, that an agreement to purchase "F-16" fighters has been signed with the United States of America, and that studies on the details are ongoing between the relevant bodies. Official sources in the Turkish Ministry of Defense stated that the public will be informed of all the details related to the deal when any decision is made in this regard. Ankara had asked Washington to purchase 40 new "F-16" aircraft to compensate for its previous partnership in the American F-35 aircraft deal, which Washington reneged on according to official Turkish sources, in addition to updating 79 of its fighters of the same model. These American fighters are the main element in the Turkish Air Force, as Ankara purchased a total of 270 aircraft from Washington between 1987 and 2012. Source: National Iraqi News Agency
