Ankara: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Trkiye condemned Israel's raid on the compound of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in occupied East Jerusalem, and its seizure of the premises.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Ministry declared that Israel's actions against a UN compound endowed with diplomatic inviolability represent a violation of international law. The Ministry emphasized that these activities undermine the authority and operations of UNRWA, which are protected under international statutes.
The Ministry's statement highlighted the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice dated 22 October 2025, which mandates Israel, as an occupying power, to not hinder UNRWA's operations but rather to support them. This opinion underscores the obligation of Israel to respect UNRWA's mission in the region.
Furthermore, the statement emphasized the critical role of UNRWA in providing essential services to Palestine refugees and in safeguarding their right of return. It noted that the continuation of UNRWA's operations is crucial for the pursuit of lasting peace in the region.
The Ministry concluded by urging the international community to implement deterrent measures against Israel's breaches of international law and to sustain their support for UNRWA's mission and efforts.
