The National Coalition announced that it will not participate in the upcoming local elections, which are expected to be held at the end of this year.
The Coalition indicated, in a press statement today, Sunday, to the support of its "Iraqi National Accord" party for the peaceful October uprising, leading to the resignation from the House of Representatives, the abolition of provincial councils and the closing of one of the doors of corruption and suspicious maneuvers.
The Coalition stated, after the meeting of the leaders of the National Accord Party and in coordination with the allied parties in the National Coalition, that "these councils are an extra link in the structure of the state and it is one of the doors to the acquisition of the capabilities of the people, but we wanted to participate in the elections because they are service councils, and we changed our opinion about participating in them after We and our allies made a decision not to participate because the state of corruption and foreign influence is still hanging over the atmosphere of the elections, as well as political money, which is still a major and essential player in the electoral process and pseudo-democracy.
He added, "Returning to elections in its old form is nothing but a circumvention of the demands of our honorable people and the October revolutionaries, which are the demands of the Iraqi people, which Prime Minister Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani is trying to achieve, but the forces of corruption and customs are stronger than his will."
The Coalition affirmed, "Provincial Councils are a democratic practice that expresses the people's contribution to managing their affairs, and we support them in this regard, but their exploitation by corruption forces and mafias made us certain that the time is not right now to revive them after they were crushed by the revolution of peaceful protesters."/ End
