The Euphrates Movement announces that it will not participate in the local elections

The Euphrates Movement, led by Muhammad Shia’a Al-Sudani, announced that it will not participate in the local elections.

The General Secretariat of the Euphrates Movement stated in a statement that it is our belief in the consolidation of democracy in our country and with the approaching provincial elections scheduled for the end of this year, and in order to promote the principle of peaceful transfer of power, and the sustainability of the achievement of political stability, which was achieved by the will of our honorable Iraqi people, and our heroic armed forces of all kinds and with Preparations for this event the Euphrates Movement finds it necessary to make clear to the public two main points:

First: The Euphrates Movement, as an Iraqi political movement whose Secretary-General, Eng. Muhammad Shiaa al-Sudani, assumed a national and historical responsibility in managing the helm of the executive authority, believes that not participating in these elections is the right option, in order to support the government’s efforts to make the elections a success, and that the movement chose during this stage to devote himself to quality public work, and focus his efforts on supporting the reform and corrective paths and the service priorities outlined by the government program.

Second: Refraining from electoral competition also means not participating in a shadow list or the like, and refraining from supporting any formation, party, or other political name. Merit, which will make us better able to support the government’s steps in preparing for fair and just elections that meet people’s convictions and democratically express their decisions, and just as the role of Eng. be far from this goal.

It added: We call on all Iraqis, voters and candidates, to exert the utmost effort, each from his position, to make this white page in the history of our people and its march towards progress, stability, and the establishment of a strong Iraq unified with democracy a success.
