Supreme Council holds meeting on upcoming conference for the disabled
The Supreme Council for Planning and Development held on Thursday the second coordination meeting to organize the upcoming conference (Integration of Persons with Disabilities in the Goals of Sustainable Development), due to be held on November 13 to 15.
The meeting will discuss the achievements and suggested future projects of the competent authorities participating in the conference, to improve the lives of persons with disabilities in the fields of media, entertainment and health.
In this regard, Secretary-General of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development Dr. Khaled Mahdi said that the meeting aims to discuss the axes and objectives of the conference and to identify the speakers.
The main committee will include a work team from the General Secretariat of the Supreme Council for Planning and Development, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA), and the Global Training Portal, in addition to a team from Yarmouk Health City, he explained.
The conference aims also to contribute to achieving the goals of the pillars of the new Kuwait Vision 2035 and some articles of international agreements for persons with disabilities, he added.
” This would Include changing the stereotyped image towards people with disabilities to motivate them to play their roles in society in all fields and to enhance their mental health”.
Mahdi pointed out the importance of developing an interactive partnership between government agencies, the private sector, civil society and individuals to adopt useful strategies to improve the lives of persons with disabilities.
For her part, the Director General of the Global Training Portal, Kifaya Al-Alban, expressed her aspirations that the meeting will end with applicable recommendations, stressing the keenness of the State of Kuwait to include persons with disabilities in society in accordance with its national policies and programs to enhance the capabilities of citizens and institutions.
In the same context, Director of the Marketing and Public Relations Department at KUNA, Issam Al-Ruwaih, said that the agency takes great care to ensure the delivery of correct information from its source to its recipients, and plays a vital role at all levels.
In a statement to KUNA on the sidelines of the meeting, Al-Ruwaih added that the agency, in cooperation with the global training portal, contributes to covering the news, especially preparing for the next conference in mid-November.
He pointed out that this would ensure that the information would be highlighted and transmitted to the largest segment of society.
The conference will be held from November 13 to 15 at the Conference Center in Sabah Al-Salem University City – Kuwait University (Al-Shaddiya), and will include a series of interactive scientific lectures, dialogue sessions, panel discussions, and an exhibition accompanying the conference.
