Rain related incidents claim 193 lives in India

At least 193 Indians lost their lives due to floods, landslides and other rain related incidents in the states of Assam, Uttar Pradesh and Himachal Pradesh since the onset of monsoon last month, local media reports said. Torrential rains that hit northeastern Indian state of Assam and resultant floods and landslides claimed 106 lives so far as flood situation remained grim today even though the water levels receded in many parts of the state, according to the reports. The authorities have opened 316 relief camps in 18 districts, taking care of 300,000 people. Assam State Disaster Management Authority said that one million and twenty thousand people are suffering under the floods across 23 districts. Dhubri is the worst hit district followed by Cachar and Golaghat. A total of 65 lives were claimed in floods, landslides, lightning and other rain related incidents in Uttar Pradesh as around 700 villages are hit. In northern state of Himachal Pradesh floods claimed 22 lives since the monsoon onset in June. S everal other states including West Bengal, Delhi, Jammu and Kashmir and Uttarakhand have suffered due to heavy rains in recent days. Source: Kuwait News Agency
