Rafah Crossing Opens for Movement of Patients and Civilians

Rafah: The Rafah border crossing in southern Gaza opened in both directions on Monday, allowing the movement of patients and citizens.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the crossing's reopening officially facilitated the travel of citizens, particularly those with humanitarian needs, including patients, the wounded, and passport holders. Among those crossing were 150 patients and their companions, who had been prepared from the early morning hours for transport to hospitals outside the Gaza Strip.

A number of Palestinians who have been stranded on the Egyptian side of the crossing are expected to return to the Gaza Strip. Citizens are hopeful for smooth travel and movement through the crossing, avoiding obstacles imposed by the Israeli occupation. The Israeli forces have established a checkpoint and military inspection point at the crossing to inspect returning individuals and their belongings.

The Rafah border crossing with Egypt began operating on a trial basis yesterday morning after experiencing over a year and a half of near-total closure. On May 7, 2024, the Israeli army entered the Rafah border crossing from the Palestinian side, completely closing it and halting the movement of travelers and the entry of aid into the Gaza Strip.
