Post: President Abbas Calls for Palestinian National Council Elections in 2026

Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a presidential decree urging the Palestinian people, both in their homeland and the diaspora, to participate in the upcoming elections for the Palestinian National Council, scheduled for November 1, 2026.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the decree mandates that the elections will take place wherever possible, inside and outside Palestine, to ensure widespread participation among Palestinians worldwide. The elections will follow the principle of full proportional representation, ensuring fair representation for various segments of the Palestinian population, including women, youth, and Palestinian communities abroad. The Central Elections Commission will oversee the entire electoral process to maintain transparency and fairness.

Additionally, President Abbas has announced that the Eighth General Conference of the Palestinian National Liberation Movement (Fatah) will be held in Ramallah on May 14, 2026. This decision follows a previous Cabinet announcement setting the date for local elections in Palestine for April 25, 2026.
