Doha: June 25 - Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) of the Ministry of Culture organized a lecture on Tuesday, under the title of new horizons in supporting visual impairment and the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Delivered by the media writer and researcher Dr. Marfut Ibrahim, the lecture highlighted numerous AI technologies and programs developed by technology firms, such as Ava and Be My Eyes programs consecrated to people with visual impairment. Speaking to Qatar News Agency , QSCCB Chairperson Faisal Muhammad Al Kooheji said the lecture marked the beginning of the QSCCB's activities during the summer program, which included organizing various events, lectures, and workshops. Among these were artistic workshops such as a course in ceramic art in collaboration with the Visual Arts Center. Additionally, he said, there is the ears of craftsmanship program aimed at enabling visually impaired individuals to access different arts through hearing and introducing them to audio descrip tion services in various fields. And he added that during the summer activities of the center, technical meetings will be held featuring the founders of the 'Ank' application, which provided audio description services for the visually impaired during the Amir Cup and Qatar football cup tournaments. Al Kooheji stated that several sports events will be organized in table tennis and goalball in collaboration with state institutions. Additionally, there will be a series of awareness sessions on cyber-attacks and other workshops, meetings, and external visits. In her remarks to QNA, Dr. Marfut Ibrahim said AI technologies have revolutionized how individuals with disabilities interact with the world, providing innovative solutions, assistance, and empowerment. These technologies enable people with disabilities worldwide to overcome barriers and live more independent lives. She highlighted that significant AI-powered programs and applications were showcased, such as the 'Be My Eyes' program, which connects blind and visually impaired individuals with sighted volunteers who assist through tasks like describing objects via live video calls, reading texts, and providing guidance.
