Doha: A team of students from the State of Qatar won the bronze medal in the 35th International Biology Olympiad, in which 800 students from 80 countries participated and took place in Astana, Kazakhstan, from July 7-14. The International Biology Olympiad targets students under the age of 20 from various countries worldwide, aiming to showcase the skills and abilities of outstanding students in biology at an advanced academic level. The Qatari team consisted of four students from government and international schools, along with team leaders and supervisors. The four students are: Ali Hamad Al Hammadi from Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, Youssef Rani Al Toum from James Wellington School Qatar, Fajr Khalid Al Muhannadi from Al Bayan Secondary School for Girls, and Mumina Joul Zar Ahmed from Mesaieed International Secondary School represented Qatar. This achievement adds to Qatar's series of successes in international competitions, following continuous training provided to students by elite local and international trainers from Qatar University, Qatar Science and Technology Secondary School for Boys, and biology educators from the Ministry of Education and Higher Education. The International Biology Olympiad is a rigorous and intense competition, one of the world's most prominent specialized events. Held annually in July for ten days, it sees participation from over eighty countries, each comprising a team of four students alongside team leaders and supervisors. The host country prepares theoretical and practical questions to test students' abilities in solving biological problems across various branches of biology and assess their skills in conducting practical experiments.
