Qatari Newspapers Editorials


Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials Wednesday HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani’s speech at the opening of the fourth ordinary session of the first legislative term, corresponding to the Shura Council’s 53rd annual session.

The newspapers said that the speech conveyed essential messages, serving as a clear roadmap to confront challenges and achieve national aspirations. It also presented a long-term strategic vision, reaffirming the wise leadership’s commitment to sustainable development and strengthening Qatar’s position as an emerging economic power.

The editorials underlined His Highness’s clarification in the speech that Shura is one of the most important forms of participation in public affairs, and it will so continue, and that the people and the government have a direct civic relationship, and there are recognized norms and mechanisms for direct communication between the people and the governance. HH also said “The honorable members of the Shura Council were only appoint
ed or elected to debate laws and actions of the executive authority with impartiality and without ulterior or parochial interests, with wisdom and reason, and to present the recommendations to the Amir,” adding “this does not change by altering the mechanism of selecting the members of this council.” Al-Sharq newspaper said in an article by the editor-in-chief that in the journey of the homeland, there are many remarkable milestones that marked important phases, where national interest was prioritized above all else, and national unity became the true source of strength, after the graceful success granted by Allah Almighty.

The paper added that HH the Amir’s speech conveyed profound and highly significant messages, reaffirming the well-established relationship between the people and the leadership in the State of Qatar, a relationship that has historically served as a model of communication, consultation, and mutual trust.

It also stressed that vibrant nations constantly reassess their path and adjust it as
needed with transparency and courage, aligning their actions with the best interests of society and its people. It also commended the continuous consultative approach between the leadership and the people, which reflects Qatar’s cohesive social fabric. His Highness captured this spirit by saying “We are all one family in Qatar.” In its conclusion, Al-Sharq affirmed that all of Qatar is one family, and its social fabric is unified, bound by a spirit of affection, love, and solidarity that nothing can divide, stressing that this vision, conveyed by HH the Amir in his speech before the Shura Council, reflects the sentiments of all Qataris, who fully embrace it.

Meanwhile, Al-Arab newspaper said in an article by its editor-in-chief that HH the Amir’s speech outlined a comprehensive vision for the State of Qatar’s future. Delivered at Tamim bin Hamad Hall at the Shura Council’s headquarters, the speech mapped out the foundations for meeting challenges and fulfilling national goals, and presented a far-sighted str
ategic vision that reaffirms the leadership’s commitment to acheiving sustainable development and strengthening Qatar’s position as an emerging economic power.

The paper noted the leadership’s commitment to clarifying the State’s policies and future aspirations, as well as to continuing the path of development and prosperity based on transparency and justice. In his speech, His Highness highlighted the impact of financial policies in reducing public debt level from nearly 73% of GDP in 2020 to less than 44% by the end of 2023, and increasing financial reserves to mitigate oil price fluctuations, contributing to a decrease in inflation to 1.4%. HH also emphasized the importance of localizing economic sectors and improving the quality of domestic products to compete with imports, alongside strengthening public-private partnerships to support comprehensive development.

HH the Amir’s speech also underscored Qatar’s firm stance on the Palestinian cause, condemning the brutal aggression on Gaza and the occupied P
alestine. His Highness criticized the international community’s inaction to stop the aggression, which has given Israel a green light to expand and commit heinous crimes. HH called for an immediate halt to the war, the launch of urgent humanitarian initiatives for Gaza, and efforts toward establishing a sovereign Palestinian state based on international legitimacy.

The paper stressed that the speech laid out a solid national plan, emphasizing the importance of unity and social cohesion. His Highness reaffirmed the system in Qatar is founded on justice, shura, which protects rights and liberties under the rule of law.

Al-Arab concluded by saying that with this speech, His Highness laid out a comprehensive vision for Qatar’s national strategy, based on the principles of justice, equality, and Shura.
