Qatar Condemns Approval of E1 Settlement Plan by Israeli Minister Smotrich

Doha: Qatar condemned on Thursday Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's approval of the highly controversial E1 colonial settlement project that 'buries the idea of a Palestinian state'.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the State of Qatar expressed strong condemnation of the Israeli Finance Minister's approval of plans to construct a settlement aimed at separating East Jerusalem from the occupied West Bank. Qatar views this move as a blatant violation of international legitimacy, particularly United Nations Security Council Resolution 2334, as stated in a press release from the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Ministry reiterated Qatar's unequivocal rejection of the Israeli occupation's policies, which are aimed at expanding settlements and forcibly displacing the Palestinian people. These measures are seen as attempts to prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.

Moreover, Qatar emphasized the urgent need for the international community to unite in compelling Israel to halt its settlement expansion plans and to comply with international resolutions. The Ministry also reaffirmed Qatar's firm and unwavering position in support of the Palestinian cause and the resilience of the Palestinian people, based on international legitimacy and the two-state solution. This stance is aimed at ensuring the establishment of an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
