Within the framework of Qatar's presidency of the 44th session of GCC, HE Permanent Representative of the State of Qatar to the United Nations Sheikha Alya Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani, held a meeting between Permanent Representatives of GCC countries to the United Nations and Executive Director of UNICEF Catherine Russell at the Permanent Mission headquarters in New York. During the meeting, the Executive Director of UNICEF provided a detailed briefing on the catastrophic humanitarian conditions facing children in Gaza, and the risks posed by continuing military operations in Rafah, which directly threaten around 600,000 children seeking refuge there. Russell also highlighted the difficulties faced by children and their families in accessing basic necessities such as food and healthcare amid deteriorating security conditions in the region. For her part, HE the Permanent Representative of Qatar to the United Nations, expressed the deep concern of the GCC countries regarding the catastrophic humanitarian situati on in Gaza and its severe impact on civilians, especially children and women. Her Excellency affirmed that GCC countries welcome working and coordinate with UNICEF to expand the scope of humanitarian aid in Gaza and facilitate its delivery to those in need, in accordance with international humanitarian law and human rights law.
