Qatar appoints a new Ambassador to the UAE for the first time in six years

The Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, appointed Sultan bin Salmeen Al Mansouri, as Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates, for the first time since the severance of diplomatic relations in 2017.

The decree, which was published on the website of the Emir of Qatar's office, stated, "The appointment of Sultan bin Salmeen Al-Mansouri as an extraordinary and plenipotentiary Ambassador to the UAE," as it enters into force from the moment of its publication, while the decision of the Qatari authorities to appoint an Ambassador to the UAE for the first time since the severance of diplomatic relations between Doha and Abu Dhabi in 2017.

Al Mansouri, the new representative of the State of Qatar in the UAE, held the position of Qatari Ambassador to China from 2014 to 2019, and represented his country's interests in Austria from 2019 to 2023.

In January 2021, Bahrain, Egypt, Yemen, Libya, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia signed an agreement at the Gulf Cooperation Council summit to end all differences with Qatar and restore full diplomatic relations with it.

The UAE announced the resumption of diplomatic relations and the resumption of the work of Embassies, as well as the Qatar Consulate in Dubai on June 19, 2023./ End
