Prisoner’s Society Reports Wide-Scale Detention Campaign in the West Bank

Ramallah: The Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) reported that Israeli occupation forces conducted a widespread detention operation and field interrogations across the West Bank, including Jerusalem, from Monday evening through Tuesday morning. At least 40 Palestinians were targeted, among them two women, a child, and former detainees.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency, the PPS statement highlighted that the operations were particularly concentrated in the town of Al-Mazra'ah al-Gharbiyah in the Ramallah and al-Bireh governorate. Israeli forces transformed the home of detainee Mohammed Mustafa Shreiteh into a field interrogation center, detaining and interrogating numerous residents.

The statement also detailed that Abeer Nawa'ja and her 16-year-old daughter, Rima, were detained during a raid on their home in Masafer Yatta, south of Hebron. They are the wife and daughter of detainee Murad al-Nawa'ja, who has been in Israeli detention for a week. During the operation, their son, Nadeem, was physically assaulted, resulting in a fracture in his left leg and torn ligaments in his right leg.

The Prisoner's Society emphasized the ongoing escalation of detention campaigns and field interrogations, noting a significant increase since the start of the conflict in October 2023. It reported that the number of detention cases in the West Bank has exceeded 23,000, reflecting a policy of collective punishment affecting all segments of Palestinian society.

Additionally, PPS pointed out that field interrogation has become a systematic practice during raids, where families are forced out of their homes, facing intimidation, vandalism, and destruction of property before detentions occur. These actions are described as part of a longstanding policy aimed at repressing and controlling the Palestinian presence, with an unprecedented escalation in violations against detainees and their families since the conflict began.
