Lisbon: President of the Portuguese Republic, António José Seguro, awarded Palestinian journalist Rami Abou Jamous the 31st North-South Prize of the Council of Europe at the Portuguese parliament in Lisbon. Abou Jamous, a war correspondent recognized for his independent reporting, has provided global audiences with first-hand accounts of life under conflict, highlighting the dangerous conditions faced by journalists in Gaza. According to Palestine news and Information Agency, Abu Jamous participated in the ceremony online, and his prize was accepted on his behalf by Sarra Grira, a Tunisian-born journalist and Editor-in-Chief of Orient XXI. During the ceremony, President Seguro praised Gaza journalists for their courage and the risks they undertake daily to report the truth amid ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestinians. The event was presided over by the President of the Assembleia da República, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco, and attended by dignitaries such as the Palestinian ambassador to Portugal, Rawan Sulai man, Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Antonio Gutiérrez Limones, and the Director of Programme Co-ordination of the Council of Europe, Claus Neukirch. Ambassador Sulaiman emphasized that this recognition honors the bravery of all Palestinian journalists and their sacrifices in defense of truth and press freedom.
