Prime Minister Mustafa reiterates support to all efforts for ceasefire and release of prisoners

RAMALLAH: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa Wednesday reiterated his support to all efforts for ceasefire and releasing all Palestinian prisoners from Israeli custody.

Speaking during a meeting with Luxembourg’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Xavier Bettel, in the occupied West Bank city of Ramallah, Prime Minister Mustafa affirmed support for all efforts and initiatives aimed at reaching a ceasefire and securing the release of Palestinian prisoners, a step which he described as one that would pave the way for a political path conducive to ending the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories and realizing the establishment of the independent Palestinian State.

He wondered how long the world would remain idle as Israel was proceeding with its genocidal aggression against the Palestinian people, particularly in the Gaza Strip, killing at least 43,163 Palestinians and injuring over 101,510, as he renewed his call for an urgent action to end the humanitarian catastrophe and suffering faced by the Palestinian p
eople.

He voiced Palestine’s rejection and condemnation of the two laws recently passed by the Israeli Knesset effectively banning the UN agency for Palestinian refugees (Unrwa) from operating inside Israel and occupied Palestine (Gaza, the occupied West Bank, and occupied East Jerusalem).

He warned that such a step would effectively deprive Palestinians in the West Bank and the Gaza Strip of the relief services provided by the Agency, which is currently the sole body providing such services in the Strip.

He called on the European Union and its Member States to impose sanctions on Israel until it complies with international law and to exert more pressure on Israel to halt the deductions from Palestinian clearance revenues and release all withheld funds.

He commended Luxembourg for its positive positions in support of reaching a ceasefire, halting the genocidal aggression on Palestinians and providing ongoing funding to the UNRWA.

Luxembourg’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Bettel, voiced his country’s sup
port for reaching an immediate ceasefire and ending the humanitarian suffering in the Gaza Strip, securing the release of all prisoners and hostages and de-escalating the situation in the region.

He also expressed his country’s support for the Palestinian people’s inalienable right to establish its independent state and providing ongoing funding to the UNRWA, so that it would fulfill its international mandate in line with the UN resolutions.
