President of Palestinian National Council calls for Israel’s expulsion from UN over discriminatory legislation against UNRWA
The President of the Palestinian National Council, Rawhi Fattouh, called for the expulsion of Israel from the United Nations if it fails to reverse the discriminatory legislation enacted by the Israeli Knesset, which prohibits the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from functioning within Israel and the occupied Palestinian Territory.
Fattouh emphasized that this legislation is a clear violation of the United Nations Charter, as it is part of Israel’s policies targeting ethnic cleansing and efforts to address the Palestinian refugee crisis. He noted that it entrenches racism and mirrors the extremism of the Israeli right-wing government.
He urged the Member States of the United Nations to hold an extraordinary session of the General Assembly to take swift action, compelling Israel to repeal the legislation or risk facing legal measures that could result in its expulsion from the international organization.
Fattouh stressed that these aggressive policies not only jeopardiz
e the rights of refugees but also establish a troubling precedent that undermines international legitimacy and contravenes United Nations resolutions concerning the Palestinian issue.
