Cairo: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas met with Syrian President Ahmed Al-Shara today on the sidelines of the emergency Arab Summit. During their discussion, they addressed recent developments in the Palestinian territories, with President Abbas emphasizing the integral role of the Gaza Strip within the State of Palestine, asserting its political and legal jurisdiction akin to other Palestinian regions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas outlined plans to restore basic services for Palestinians returning to their homes, setting the stage for reconstruction efforts supported by international allies. He highlighted the urgent need to secure a ceasefire, deliver humanitarian aid, and ensure the full withdrawal of occupation forces, allowing the Palestinian National Authority to resume control over the Gaza Strip. Furthermore, President Abbas called for an end to unilateral actions, including the cessation of settlements and annexation efforts in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
President Abbas urged the international community, particularly the United Nations and the Security Council, to hold the occupying state accountable and put an end to its continuous aggression against Palestinian people, land, and sacred sites. He denounced the settlement and annexation projects, describing them as violations of international legitimacy and law.
The President also expressed his appreciation for the longstanding fraternal relations between Palestine and Syria, emphasizing his commitment to further strengthening these ties. The meeting was attended by key Palestinian officials, including Hussein Al-Sheikh, Secretary of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, Majdi Al-Khalidi, Advisor to the President for Diplomatic Affairs, and Diab Al-Louh, Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the Arab Republic of Egypt.
