Ramallah: President Mahmoud Abbas met with Anke Schlimm, the Head of the German Representative Office, at the Presidential Headquarters to discuss ongoing peace efforts and support for reconstruction.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Schlimm reiterated Germany's commitment to fostering peace by advocating for a ceasefire and providing humanitarian aid. She also highlighted Germany's plans to allocate additional funds in the near future and the upcoming government consultations scheduled for early next month.
Schlimm stressed the pivotal role of the Palestinian Authority in governance and security, underlining the importance of support from Arab and international entities such as the international stability force and the Peace Council. Additionally, she expressed Germany's willingness to co-sponsor, alongside Egypt, an International Conference for Recovery and Reconstruction, acknowledging the Palestinian government's efforts in planning and preparation for the event.
President Abbas expressed his gratitude to Germany for its steadfast support of peace and stability. He praised the humanitarian assistance and programs aimed at bolstering Palestinian institution-building and reaffirmed Palestine's commitment to its reform pledges. The President also emphasized the significance of enhancing bilateral relations between Palestine and Germany, which he believes will strengthen the bonds between the Palestinian and German peoples.
