President Abbas at African Summit: Anyone Who Thinks They Can Displace Our People Is Delusional

Addis Ababa: President of the State of Palestine Mahmoud Abbas reiterated today his absolute rejection of any calls aimed at displacing the Palestinian people from their homeland, which would keep the region in a cycle of violence, instead of going to make peace.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, President Abbas delivered a speech at the 38th African Summit in the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa. He stated, "whoever believes that he can impose a new deal of the century, or displace our Palestinian people and seize any inch of our land is delusional." He emphasized that such calls are a distraction from war crimes, genocide, and destruction in Gaza, along with colony crimes and attempts to annex the West Bank.

President Abbas further highlighted that the one and a half million refugees living in Gaza should return to their cities and villages from which they were displaced in 1948, as per UN Resolution 194. He stressed the need for urgent measures from the international community and the UN Security Council against Israeli colonial practices to prevent the spread of extremist forces that threaten the two-state solution.

The President reaffirmed the commitment to international legitimacy and signed agreements, urging the end of Israeli occupation and implementation of UN Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, along with the Arab Peace Initiative. He called for a global coalition to implement the two-state solution and support the international peace conference scheduled at the United Nations in mid-June. This conference aims to mobilize international energies for the recognition of the State of Palestine and its full membership in the United Nations.

President Abbas encouraged African Union countries to participate in the Conference of the High Contracting Parties to the Geneva Conventions next March. He expressed gratitude to countries rejecting the displacement of Palestinians and thanked the African Union and its member states for their steadfast support in the Palestinian struggle for freedom and independence.
