Amman: President Mahmoud Abbas met with King Abdullah II of Jordan in the Jordanian capital, Amman, accompanied by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II. The leaders focused on recent developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, with President Abbas briefing King Abdullah II on Palestinian diplomatic movements at the international level.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the meeting addressed several pressing issues, particularly the Israeli aggression against Qatar. The leaders jointly condemned the attack and emphasized the importance of supporting Qatar and implementing measures to deter such actions in the future. They proposed Arab-Islamic consultations to prevent recurrence.
The discussion also included strengthening the relationship between Jordan and Palestine, exploring ways to enhance cooperation in various sectors. President Abbas expressed appreciation for Jordan's role in addressing Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank, including facilitating humanitarian aid and preventing displacement.
President Abbas highlighted Palestinian priorities, including an immediate ceasefire, unimpeded humanitarian aid to Gaza, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces. He stressed the need for the international community to act decisively against Israeli plans to annex the West Bank, halt settlement expansion, and release Palestinian funds.
The meeting also covered the upcoming high-level international conference on the Palestinian issue and the two-state solution, scheduled for September 22 in New York. The conference is to be co-hosted by Saudi Arabia and France. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the Palestinian position and pursuing full UN membership for the State of Palestine.
The Palestinian delegation included Ziad Abu Amr, Majdi Khalidi, and Atallah Khairy. The Jordanian side was represented by Ayman Safadi and Alaa Batayneh.
