Presidency welcomes holding the first meeting of the Global Alliance in Saudi Arabia

RAMALLAH: The Presidency has welcomed the inaugural meeting of the Global Alliance held in the Saudi capital today, following its establishment announced in New York last September. The alliance aims to promote the establishment of a Palestinian state and end the Israeli occupation of Palestinian territories, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

In a statement, the Presidency expressed deep appreciation for the efforts of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, under the leadership of King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, in hosting this significant meeting. This gathering is expected to bolster the efforts of President Mahmoud Abbas and support the quest for an independent Palestinian state.

The Presidency also commended the contributions of all participating nations, both Arab and allied, in this crucial dialogue. It acknowledged Saudi Arabia’s leadership in the Arab-Islamic committee, which has worked tirelessly over the past year to garner international support for Palestinian recognition
and full UN membership, advocating for a ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.

Furthermore, the Palestinian leadership emphasized the necessity of implementing the UN General Assembly resolution regarding the International Court of Justice’s advisory opinion within a specific timeframe.

The Presidency called for a global peace conference and the execution of UN Security Council Resolution 2735, which addresses the ceasefire, humanitarian aid, and the complete withdrawal of occupation forces from Gaza, allowing for Palestinian governance over the territory.

The Presidency reiterated the importance of strengthening the operations of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) and rejected illegal Israeli decisions that hinder its work in the region.

This meeting is seen as a critical step towards advancing Palestinian aspirations for statehood and sovereignty amidst ongoing regional challenges.
