Ramallah: The Palestinian Presidency condemned the Israeli occupation authorities' approval of the construction of 34 new settlements in the West Bank, considering it a dangerous escalation and a flagrant violation of international law and UN resolutions.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the Presidency issued a statement affirming that all settlement activity is illegal in the occupied Palestinian territory, referencing international law, including UN Security Council Resolution 2334. This resolution affirmed that settlement expansion in the occupied Palestinian territory is contrary to international law and relevant international resolutions, deeming it illegal and mandating it must be halted.
The Presidency indicated that this decision represents an Israeli step towards implementing annexation, expansionist, and displacement plans. The consequences of these plans will be borne by the right-wing Israeli government, which is accused of igniting regional tensions and escalating cycles of violence.
The Presidency called on the international community, especially the US administration, to intervene immediately to stop these unilateral measures. It urged pressure on the occupation authorities to cease their escalating policies and ongoing violations against the Palestinian people and their land.
The Presidency reiterated the Palestinian people's commitment to their legitimate national rights, emphasizing the establishment of an independent state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital. It stressed that Israeli decisions will not legitimize occupation, and all settlements are destined to disappear.
