Gaza: Resolving the Palestinian issue is crucial for addressing crises and ending conflicts in the region, Presidential Spokesperson Nabil Abu Rudeineh emphasized on Monday. He pointed out that the consistent presence of the Palestinian cause on the United Nations Security Council's (UNSC) agenda highlights its importance as a key factor for security and stability throughout the region.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Abu Rudeineh elaborated on the continuous Israeli aggression against Palestinians in Gaza. He mentioned the ongoing attacks by Israeli occupation forces and colonist mob terrorism in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem. He also cited issues like colonial settlement expansion, the withholding of Palestinian clearance tax revenues, and policies of blockade and collective punishment as evidence that Israel's occupation and impunity are the primary barriers to security and stability in the region.
Abu Rudeineh stressed the importance of implementing dozens of UNSC and UNGA resolutions, especially UNSC Resolution 2334, which declared Israeli settlements illegal. He argued that the failure to enact these resolutions in a serious and binding manner has perpetuated a cycle of violence and wars, threatening international peace and security.
The presidential spokesperson urged the international community to turn UNSC and UN resolutions into practical actions on the ground. These measures should enable the Palestinian people to secure their legitimate rights to self-determination, freedom, and independence, thereby ending the ongoing wars and crises in the region.
Abu Rudeineh also called on the US administration to pressure Israel to comply with international law and UN resolutions. He reiterated that achieving regional security and stability hinges on fully recognizing the Palestinian people's legitimate national rights. This includes establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in line with UN resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative. Without this, he warned, the region will continue to suffer from unending wars.
