Gaza: Israeli forces on Monday initiated the installation of a roof over the open courtyard of the Ibrahimi Mosque in Hebron. This action has sparked concern among Palestinian officials, who assert that it aims to modify the historic and cultural essence of the site. Additionally, Israeli forces destroyed murals in the village of Al-Tabaqa, located near the town of Dura, south of Hebron.
According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, Munjed Al-Jaabari, the director of the Ibrahimi Mosque, reported that Israeli forces used heavy machinery to bring suspended steel beams into the mosque compound to cover the courtyard. Al-Jaabari emphasized that this act represents a significant violation of the mosque's sanctity and historical character. He stated that it interferes with religious freedoms, provokes Muslim worshippers, and is part of a broader pattern of Israeli actions targeting the mosque, Hebron's Old City, and the surrounding areas.
In Al-Tabaqa village, Israeli forces carried out a separate operation where they damaged murals that depicted Palestinian martyrs and national figures. WAFA's correspondent detailed that soldiers initially partially demolished the murals and then compelled local residents to complete the demolition using their own equipment. The murals included images of notable figures such as Shadi Abu Ghazaleh, Basel al-Araj, Naji al-Ali, and Ghassan Kanafani.
