PNC Speaker says petition signed by 1200 academics and figures exposes Israel’s apartheid system

The petition signed by 1200 American academics and other public figures exposes the system of apartheid practiced in Israel against the Palestinians, today said the Speaker of the Palestinian National Council (PNC), the parliament, Rawhi Fattouh. The petition called attention to the direct link between Israel’s recent attack on the judiciary and its illegal occupation of millions of Palestinians in the Palestinian territories. The signatories stressed that the Palestinian people lack almost all basic rights, including the right to protest, and they face constant violence. ‘Israel’s long-standing occupation that, we repeat, has yielded a regime of apartheid,’ said the petitioners. Fattouh emphasized in a statement that this petition is a step in revealing and exposing the extent of the racism of the Israeli occupation and the extent of its crimes and violations against the Palestinian people and their sanctities, as well as the extent of support for the justice of the Palestinian cause. He called on the European countries, members of European parliaments, and international organizations to sponsor and adopt this document, and on parliamentarians, parties, politicians, media professionals, and opinion leaders in the international community to join in signing this petition in order to expose and defeat the Israeli apartheid regime and its racist policies, and to hold it accountable before international courts as the Palestinian people fight for their just cause. Exposing the last and longest occupation in history and describing it as an apartheid regime based on the crimes it commits against the Palestinian people by opinion leaders, international writers, academics, and Israeli and American jurists, ‘is a courageous move and a powerful weapon in support of the just cause of our people, their existence, their political and civil rights, their right to freedom and independence, as well as brining to trial the occupation and its leaders for their crimes, which will not be subject to a statute of limitations,’ said the Speaker of the PNC, Rawhi Fattouh.
