PM Mustafa Commends EU’s Support for Palestinian Statehood Amid Crisis

Ramallah: Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa expressed his appreciation for the European Union’s support for the two-State solution and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state. He emphasized that the EU’s stance brings renewed hope that the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people will not be forgotten.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency – WAFA, the Prime Minister made these remarks during Europe Day celebrations in Ramallah, attended by EU Representative to Palestine Alexandre Stutzmann and various diplomatic, official, and public figures. Mustafa extended gratitude to the EU and its Member States for their longstanding political, financial, and economic support for Palestine, including backing the Palestinian Government and its programs.

Mustafa highlighted the EU’s leadership, together with Saudi Arabia and Norway, of the Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution. This initiative will culminate in an international conference in New York on June 17, co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia. He marked this as a historic milestone in the struggle for an independent Palestinian State, particularly at a time when the viability of the two-State solution is questioned.

The Prime Minister also appreciated a recent joint statement by senior EU Commissioners condemning Israel’s practices in Gaza, including the ongoing siege and use of starvation as a weapon of war. He announced that Gaza had been declared a famine-stricken area and expressed profound sadness over the starvation of people in a world that often promotes justice and human rights. Mustafa denounced the closure of UNRWA schools in Jerusalem’s Shu’fat refugee camp by Israeli forces, viewing it as an attempt to deny Palestinian children’s right to education.

EU Representative Alexander Stutzmann echoed the EU’s call for Israel to lift the siege on Gaza, emphasizing the need for humanitarian aid to reach civilians without being politicized or militarized. He announced a renewed EU commitment through a multi-year support program for Palestinians, amounting to up to £1.6 billion over the next three years, underlining the EU’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people.
