New York, On the sidelines of World Autism Awareness Day, which falls on April 2nd of each year, the Permanent Delegation of the State of Qatar to the United Nations (UN) organized an event on providing emerging and basic technologies to individuals with autism at the UN Headquarters in New York, in cooperation with Autism Foundation, Hamad Bin Khalifa University, Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, and Mada Assistive Technology Center Qatar. The event was attended by officials from various UN offices, including UNICEF, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), and the World Health Organization (WHO). During the event, participants highlighted the efforts of the State of Qatar in bridging the digital divide and providing universal access to assistive technology, which enables individuals with autism to succeed in the digital age around the world. The adoption of the UN General Assemblys resolution to designate an international day for autism awareness came after the State of Qatar submit ted the draft resolution in November 2007.
