Parliamentary Human Rights Committee Holds A Workshop To Discuss The Draft Law On Freedom Of Expression And Peaceful Demonstration

The Parliamentary Human Rights Committee, headed by Arshad Al-Salihi, held a workshop in cooperation with the International Institute for Human Rights, in the presence of representatives of the Supreme Judicial Council, the Ministry of Interior, civil society organizations, legal experts and judges from the Kurdistan Region of Iraq to discuss ways to mature the draft law on freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration .

The head of the committee reviewed, according to a statement by the Parliamentary Media Department, the general framework of the draft law, the stages it went through, and the obstacles that impede the legislation of the law.

Vice-Chairman of the Committee, Wahda Al-Jumaili, gave a detailed presentation on the points of contention regarding the draft law, which must reach a unified vision in order to include them in the law and present them to the supporting committees in the legislation of the draft law.

The committee listened to the remarks of the participants in the workshop to be discussed with other parliamentary committees. The committee also agreed to hold a discussion session at the beginning of next month to put notes and draft a final law on freedom of expression and peaceful demonstration, in a form agreed upon by all relevant authorities, in a way that achieves its goals.
