Moscow: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas received the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Mr. Hussein Ibrahim Taha, at his residence in Moscow. This meeting took place on the sidelines of their attendance at the Russian Federation's commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazism.
According to Union of OIC News Agencies, President Abbas briefed the Secretary-General on the developments regarding the Palestinian cause, outlining the challenges faced and efforts to halt aggression against Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank, including Jerusalem. He highlighted the significance of enabling the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights, primarily the establishment of an independent state. President Abbas expressed appreciation for the Organization of Islamic Cooperation's support for the Palestinian cause and stressed the importance of a unified stance on the matter.
The Secretary-General reaffirmed the OIC's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, identifying it as a central issue for the organization. He emphasized the necessity of strengthening efforts to mobilize the international community's responsibility to enable Palestinians to exercise their legitimate rights, including the establishment of an independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
