Palestinian Detainee from Gaza Dies Behind Israeli Bars

Gaza City: The Commission of Detainees' Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoner's Society (PPS) confirmed the death of detainee Amr Hatem Odeh, 33, from Gaza, at the Sde Teiman camp.

According to Palestine News and Information Agency - WAFA, the two organizations stated in a joint statement that the Sde Teiman camp was notorious for torture crimes against Gaza detainees following the genocide, along with other crimes documented by institutions. These atrocities were reflected in the testimonies of released detainees, whose physical conditions serve as living evidence of the abuse suffered.

The Commission and the PPS noted that Odeh was detained along with his family from their home at the onset of the ground invasion of Gaza, on December 7, 2023. Odeh, a married man with three children, was among those who suffered under these conditions.

With Odeh's death, the number of slain prisoners since the genocide has risen to at least 70, including 44 detainees from Gaza whose identities are known. Additionally, the cumulative number of slain prisoners since 1967 has reached 307, marking this period as the bloodiest in the history of Palestinian detainees.

The Commission and the PPS highlighted the limited responses received from the occupation army, which remain confined to the army's narrative. This is compounded by the continued detention of the bodies of slain prisoners and the lack of disclosure regarding the circumstances of their deaths.

The organizations further stressed that the occupation has attempted to manipulate the responses given to institutions, leading some to seek court intervention for clarity on the fate of detainees. They emphasized that torture crimes have been a primary cause of death for many martyrs post-genocide, alongside medical crimes, starvation, and rape.
